[Berlin-wireless] 5GHz-WAP ?

Hi und moinmoin,
da das Thema 5GHz-Funk wohl auch in der FF-comunity Einzug hält,
hier ein paar info's, die evtl. v.I. sein könnten:
"justdeals-de" vertickt z.Z. regelmäßig via ebay.de und ebay.uk
folgende Nettigkeit für EUR 10.- + Versand (der lädt allerdings zu
Sammelbestellung ein...):
"Proxim 5GHz 802.11a Wireless Access Point"
Habe mir sonn Teil aus Neugier mitbesorgt.
Es handelt sich dabei um den "Proxim Skyline 4040 802.11a" router
- fast baugleich mit dem "Proxim 8571 802.11a AP Harmony", der
hat einfach externe RP-SMA, der 4040 nur feste Antennen mit
gesteckten internen pigtails; auf dem 4040 läuft die firmware
des Harmony
- unterstützt von Haus aus das untere ("in-house") Band, also 5,1 - 5.3 GHz
- hardware:
powerPC 405GP, 200MHz, 8MB RAM, 2MB flash(?)
cardbus card w/ atheros 5210 !!!
single RJ45 10/100Mbit ethernet
LSI L80225/B ethernet-controller
power-supply 10-26V, nom. 12V/1A
internal 2.5V and 3.3V switching converters
"passive POE" via RJ45
serielle (3V LV-TTL) on-board
JTAG header vorhanden
- in der original firmware gibt's telnet mit ziemlich weitgehenden
Spielmöglichkeiten, im attachement habe ich nur ein paar der Meldungen
und die Menü-Struktur des tools eingefügt

Richtig nett finde ich, das power via ethernet schon eingebaut ist.
Und :-) es gibt einen Linux-port dafür, ebenfalls unter
http://pupa.da.ru/proxim/ zu finden.
Das ganze Teile ist so klein wie der WAP54Gv2 (die Atheros-cardbus
sitzt im Huckepack unter dem router-board), und der Preis...
o.k., habe mich verliebt ;-)

P.S. wenn jetzt so ein Schlächter meint, er kriegt für 10 Tacken 'ne
Atheros cardbus, nun, die hat keinen Metallmantel, hatte sie auch noch nicht
solo im Laptopf, also solange ich nicht zusehen muß...

Most point to point 802.11a antennas are in the 5.8GHz range where point to point is allowed by the FCC
The proxim is at 5.3GHz as its designed for multipoint
Fortunately SuperPass has a suitable patch antenna that someworks across the entire 802.11a 5GHz range of 5.1-5.9GHz

Skyline 802.11a FAQ Problem Setting Channel 64 (model 4040)
known issue, and cannot be resolved using firmware version 1.0-B20
workaround is to update the Skyline AP to use the Harmony firmware, version 2.0-B11
(version w/o APcontroller referred)
